Why Egg and Honey?

Eggs and honey are two of the oldest & simplest of human foods. They represent the goal of respecting traditions and the past as keys to eating for the future.

Both ingredients are easily found being raised by our local growers, who take care to create the most nutritious and delicious products. This means freely romping, well-fed chickens and organic, unheated "raw" honey.

They are also Amelia's two favorite ingredients. Recipes calling for honey draw her like a magnet, and an egg poached in soup is her ideal quick dinner.

About Amelia

Amelia Contreras, a Sylvania native, has been combining her talents for organization and creativity for as long as she can remember. She feels it is her purpose in life to create beautiful, happy experiences for others. Being drawn to nature and the changing seasons, she has also gained a desire to be environmentally responsible.

She gained a lifelong love of food and cooking from her family. Her mother leads with the example of always being willing to cook for people, and being prepared for anything. Five-hour roadtrips to visit relatives often involve enough food gifts to feed the travelers for a week if stranded. Her father, of course, tends to value those homemade treats over any storebought gift, no matter what the holiday or how carefully the item was chosen.

Considering herself to be a "transitioning" locavore, Amelia seeks local, in-season produce and free-range dairy, eggs and meat, but often submits to what's on sale at the supermarket or the convenience of frozen pizza. She holds herself out as an example of how others can slowly but surely adopt local eating habits.

Amelia currently resides in the Franklin Park area with her artistic husband and three spoiled rotten kitty cats.
